The following table lists items that require special handling for disposal. None of these items should be left out for weekly curbside rubbish pick up unless specifically indicated below.

fluorescent light bulbs Contain mercury (even the compact ones). All kinds, take to either Hitchings Hardware or Hopkinton Lumber, no charge.
freezer or fridge Contains chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and under federal law, CFCs must be removed before the appliance can be discarded.

  • dilute unused medicine and pour down the drain ONLY if you have sewer hookup (NOT septic)
  • seal sharps (needles, razors) in rigid container and dispose of in trash

monitors (CRTs) Drop off at Recycling Center 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Saturday. There is a slight fee, see the notice.
motor oil
  • Brother's Auto Repair, 84 Wood Street (Rt. 135) will take uncontaminated motor oil for a nominal fee M-F 8am-5pm
  • Call MA DEP's Used Oil Hotline at (617) 556-1022.
