The following table lists items that require special handling for disposal. None of these items should be left out for weekly curbside rubbish pick up unless specifically indicated below.

air conditioners	Contains chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and under federal law, CFCs must be removed before the appliance can be discarded. antifreeze	Please have your radiator flushed at a service station. Otherwise store in a sealed container where children or animals cannot reach it until the Annual Hazardous Waste Day at the DPW Highway Garage

ashes
battery: car, boat, truck, motorcycle, ATV, etc.	Drop off at Recycling Center 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Saturday

clothes dryer	Last Saturday of each month bring bulk metal to the DPW Highway Garage

construction and demolition debris	See MA DEP guidelines
corrugated cardboard	bi-weekly Curbside Recycling (2'x2' pieces) Drop off at Recycling Center 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Saturday

earth	Compost It!
fire extinguisher	May explode if disposed of while still under pressure See MA DEP web site for information on depressurizing for disposal.
fluorescent light bulbs	Contain mercury (even the compact ones). All kinds, take to either Hitchings Hardware or Hopkinton Lumber, no charge.
freezer or fridge	Contains chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and under federal law, CFCs must be removed before the appliance can be discarded. freon anything (fridge, freezer, AC, etc.)	Freon is a trade name for any of several chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and under federal law, CFCs must be removed before the appliance can be discarded. grill (without propane tank)	Last Saturday of each month bring bulk metal to the DPW Highway Garage

helium tanks	Unsure. Try MA DEP list of companies that will accept propane tanks for disposal.
lawn mower	Last Saturday of each month bring bulk metal to the DPW Highway Garage
leaves	Compost It! Drop off at Recycling Center 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Saturday
medical waste	dilute unused medicine and pour down the drain ONLY if you have sewer hookup (NOT septic) seal sharps (needles, razors) in rigid container and dispose of in trash For more information see MA DEP medical waste page
monitors (CRTs)	Drop off at Recycling Center 7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Saturday. There is a slight fee, see the notice.
motor oil	Brother's Auto Repair, 84 Wood Street (Rt. 135) will take uncontaminated motor oil for a nominal fee M-F 8am-5pm Call MA DEP's Used Oil Hotline at (617) 556-1022.

oven	Last Saturday of each month bring bulk metal to the DPW Highway Garage
paint	Latex paint containers may be thrown in trash if paint is dried out. oil paint (see: oil-based paint) for more information see MA DEP paint page

tires	Check with a local tire retailer or service station (expect a fee unless purchasing new tires)
tree trunks or limbs

washing machine	Last Saturday of each month: bring bulk metal to DPW Highway Garage

** DPW holds a hazardous waste collection day every spring. Watch newspapers, bulletin board, or cable TV for announcements.
