Rules and Regulations

Grave Lot Prices

  • No sales to Non-Residents
  • Limited to two (2) 4-grave lots to one immediate family
  • Burial plots (40”x72”) for cremated remains and babies only in Evergreen Cemetery $100.00
  • Grave cost $600.00 each, which includes Perpetual Care, can be singles, pairs, or a 4-grave family lot

Schedule of Fees and Charges

  • Opening and closing of graves, all cemeteries, including grass and lowering device                     

Effective July 1, 2007                 $750.00

Effective July 1, 2008                 $1,000.00

Effective July 1, 2009                 $1,250.00

  • Cremation interment Effective July 1, 2007                      $125.00
  • No interment on Sunday and major holidays (i.e. Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Thanksgiving)
  • All other stated holidays an additional fee of $100.00 for interment
  • Overtime Charges:
    • Interment on a Tuesday following a Monday holiday      $100.00
    • Monday interment called in after noon on Friday                        $100.00
    • Funerals arriving at the cemetery after 3:00 PM               $100.00
  • Removal of headstone for interment:
    • Single               $75.00
    • Double             $100.00
    • Triple               $125.00
    • Quadruple        $150.00
    • Footmarker      $50.00
  • Interment will begin at 10:00 AM , when preceded by a holiday or weekend
  • All grave fees are payable at or before interment

The Cemetery Department is subject to the General Laws of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

A Cement vault must be used. No liners.

Grave boxes, vaults or non-disintegratable container (for ashes) are required.

All lot openings and closings for both ashes or conventional interment must be done by the cemetery personnel and requires a 48-hour notice.

Lots may be transferred by endorsement of the deed, subject to the acceptance by the Trustees and Commissioners and recorded in the Cemetery Records.

Interment of any other than the lot owner or a relative must have the permission of the Trustees or Commissioners.

All flowers, baskets, wreaths, etc. will be removed in seven (7) days after the funeral.

The Cemetery maintains a Tomb for the reception of a deceased persons remains until spring interment. This tomb is for use by Hopkinton Residents only.

Only cemetery personnel are allowed to use power trimmers, power mowers or riding mowers.

The Cemeteries are open from dawn to dusk.

Plantings may not be more than 12” in front of a headstone and may not be longer than the width of the headstone.

Only dwarf size shrubs and plantings are allowed.

Shrubs may not exceed the height of the headstone and will be removed by the cemetery personnel if found not maintained.

Dwarf shrubs or flower beds are to be maintained by the lot owner on a monthly basis.

Plantings, rocks, flags or any other items are not allowed on or near flushmarkers.

Plantings must be maintained by the lot owner.

Plantings may be removed at the discretion of the Cemetery Department.

No rose or any type of prickly bushes is allowed.

No rocks, bricks, fencing or enclosures of any type are permitted around either headstones or planting.

No glass containers are permitted at any time.

Winter baskets and wreaths may be placed on the lot from November 15th through February 28th. Any baskets and wreaths will be removed by the cemetery personnel on or after March 1st, weather permitting.

Organizational and religious items may only be placed in front of or next to the headstone.

The Cemetery Department is not responsible for any grave decorations or plantings.

All headstones must be in good taste and sized in keeping with the cemeteries.

Individual markers must be flush with the ground.

All markers on cremation lots are to be flush with the ground.

All foundations will be prepared by the cemetery personnel.

No headstone base shall be more than 48 inches long.

No corner markers allowed after January 18, 1995 .

No A.T.V. or snowmobiles allowed through the cemeteries.

No alcoholic beverages, picnics or recreational vehicles are permitted on the cemetery grounds.

No animals allowed on cemetery property.
